On-Page OptimizationOn-page optimization, or on-site SEO, is the process for improving  content and structure of a website to make it to reach higher ranks in search engine results.  The goal is to make it easier for users and search engines to understand what the page is about.  The optimization process involve two methods in principle. On-page optimization and of-page optimization. This topic is all about on-page optimization or on-site optimization. But, there is a slight difference between On-page optimization and On-site optimization. If the SEO process is carried out in the whole page of a web site, it is termed as On-site SEO where as if done in some particular pages, it is On-page optimization.

Crawling, caching, and indexing are fundamental processes adopted by search engines to discover, store and organize information provided in the web page. 

Crawling involves using automated programs (crawlers, spiders, google bots, or robots) to visit and explore websites. 

Caching on the other hand, involves storing copies of web pages on servers  in convenience to users, improving load time and efficiency. while indexing creates a database of these pages for efficient retrieval during searches and to show in research results. Once a page is crawled, its content is analyzed and stored in a large data base called index. The index allows search engines to quickly retrieve relevant pages when users perform searching.

Key aspects of On-page optimization is to create high quality, unique and relevant content that meet the requirement of the users.

Key word

key word is a word or phrase in the webpage that matches with the words and phrases likely to use for searching. Key words act as a guide to reach the page they want. 

Incorporating suitable key words throughout the content, title tags, meta descriptions and URLs.

Title tags & Meta descriptions.

Crafting tending and informative title tags and meta descriptions that reflect page content, which encourage clicks.

URLs.

Creating short, descriptive and user friendly URLs clearly indicating page topic.

Internal linking.

Linking to other relevant pages of other web sites to improve site navigation and to highlight the importance of certain pages to search engines.

Optimized title tags and meta descriptions can tempt users to click further on search results, leading to higher click through rates.

On page optimization tips.

1. SEO title: It is the most important identity portion for web crawlers to recognize a page. It should be a meaningful sentence with clarity.

2. Focusing key-word shall as far as possible be included is SEO title.

3.Should be reflecting  the topic and its content.

4. Should be both attractive and impressive to users. A user while searching for a subject in google, reach in the search results welcomed by the snippets appearing with SEO title. If the SEO title is not found enticing the user will have a chance to leave the place without further enquiry or clicks.

5. A good SEO title collect more trust value resulting for better ranking.

Mistakes not to admit in SEO title.

1. No spelling mistake. Spelling mistake result in distracting users  and further losing the trust value of the site.

2. No grammatical mistakes.

3. Do not provide full capital letters or small letters in SEO title. It is against the guide lines of Webmaster starter guide published by Google. Providing full capital letter in SEO title may exceed the pixel width limits of snippets., as capital letters is having more thickness compared to small letters.

4. Do not provide full small letters either. SEO title with full small letters will let down the attractiveness and users attention will be less.

Google will not encourage these two situations and will result in  remote chances for considering  in page ranking.

The maximum characters that can be accommodated in SEO title is 55 to 60 for web pages. Blogs and news letters  need to be shown with date of publishing. So, the character limitation of them is further reduced to 50.

The maximum width is 512 pixels for all.

If the limits are exceeded, the balance portion of  title will be  curtailed with dotted lines at the end. The title sentence appear in snippet become meaningless. Users  may distract from further reading  at this point  ad chances for more clicks will be lost.

5. SEO title should be unique. The SEO title given in a page should not be repeated for other pages in the same web site. If it is occurred so,  it is termed as title duplication. If a web page contain same SEO title in different pages, it will result in an internal race for ranking in between, occur cannibalism  and collapse in ranking procedure.

6. SEO title should contain at least 3 words. It will be enabling crawlers to identify the page easily.

Body  portion optimization.

Body portion of a web page refers to the main content or text area where the descriptions are entered. It contain text, images, links and other interactive elements.

The body typically includes:

1.Heading or tags: H1, H2, H3 H4, H5 ETC

2. Text paragraphs, list etc.

3. Images; Pictures, and other visual elements.

4. Links: Hypertext references to other pages and web sites.

5. Interactive elements: Forms, tables, and other dynamic content.

6. Media: Video  and audio files.

Main heading or H1 tag.

H1 tag defines the main heading of the web page. H1 tag is the biggest heading in a page and the indicator of the main objective of the page. So there should be a single H1 tag for the page, If more than one H1 Tags are provided in a page with counter active effect, the pages will be sent to sand box, where such pages are kept in with out any feedback. Files sent to sand box are irrecoverable.

H1 tags are to be limited to 6,7, or with 8 words. The at most number is 12. Google give  H1 tag as importance as the SEO title. The maximum character is limited 55 to 60 and pixel width 32.

H2 tag:

The next important heading is H2 tag. If the page under consideration is a landing page it is advisable  to give a H2 tag for the same. Landing page is an exclusive page for a particular subject or service., where as an over view page is defined as a page with different narrations of a product or service. If the page is an article it is better to divide it into two parts and to give two H2 tags for each part.

H3,H4,H5 tags are provided for minor headings.

Page content

Page content refers to all the information collected and stored inside the page, aimed for serving to the users. Page content can be displayed as text, links, images, audio, animation or videos among other things.

Tips for Page content writing

1. Content description should be simple sentence, filled with  complete sense.

2. Long sentences will reduce the readability. If a  sentence contain more than 20 words, the reader may  forget the initial words of the  sentence and its meaning.

3. Provide the focusing key word  in the starting positions of the page as far as possible. In the first sentence or in the second. There are several plus points in placing the focusing keyword in the first sentence. A user reaching the page can immediately understand what is there in the page. Further, if the meta description of the page is not acceptable to Google there are a lot of chances to adopt a sentence from the page, preferably the first sentence itself. The focusing keyword appear in the metatag may lead users to enter the page resulting in more clicks.

4. Complicated sentences may be avoided. Give full stop at the end of each sentences. Give a space after full stop or semi column.

5. Readability of content

The structure of the sentence shall be aiming enhancement of  the readability. Whatever thing you do for easier reading will be welcomed  by Google.

Keyword density

The ratio between the total number of words inside the page to the number of keywords in the page  is termed  as keyword density. The maximum key word density allowed in the page is 5%. There is no fast rule in the number  of keyword presence in a page.  Long tailed keywords are not welcomed. But adding more keyword in a page shall not invite keyword stuffing. Manipulation of key words do not entertained.  But if there is no Keyword in a page, the page will not qualified for ranking. If more keyword presence is unavoidable in page, synonyms may be used.

Old school SEO article

The SEO practice in earlier days is of so many virtual beliefs. which were having both true untrue facts. Old school SEO articles is referred the SEO practices which were followed in the childhood stage of SEO and dropped later.

There was a slander belief that exceeding the keyword density of 5% limit  will invite negative impact.

Providing gray color to focusing keywords will help in enhancing rankings. 

Words in gray invite special consideration, which is yet to be clarified.

How ever, if you place focusing key word just after a full stop or before a coma will likely to get a little more attention to the key word.Readers at these points will pause a while.

 Meta tag or Meta Description

Meta tags are HTML text to give information and direction to page crawlers need to be provided for  crawling. Meta tags are functional only if it is included  in the head section of the HTML page. Meta tags provided in the body portion of a page is invalid.

Meta description

Meta description is a brief summary of the web page content. It appears below the page title in the search engine result pages. A proper meta description can make better click through rates (CTR) which indirectly influence rankings.
The meta description format is 
Meta space name =" description content ="..........."
Google has the privilege for not adopt the  title name or meta description of the page. If the title or meta description given for the page is not suitable to the content, a relevant name or phrase well be selected by Google. It may preferably from the first sentence or the first sentence itself.

Important aspects for formulating meta description.

1. The meta description should be unique.
2. It shall be reflective of the page content. Otherwise there are chances for rejection.
3. Meta description shall be a meaningful sentence.
4. Spelling mistake or grammatical error shall not be entertained.
5. No duplication of words.
6. It should be relevant to the page.
7. Attractive and impressive to searchers.
8. Focusing keyword may be included in meta description, at least once.
9. If the page is revised or optimized further in a later stage, meta description can also be modified. Meta description may be modified  with marketing techniques for improving CTR(click through rate).
10. If Google could not find  satisfactory meta description in a page or subsequent pages, meta description may be collected even from HTML pages. If such instances were not successful. Google will search for any favorable remarks  in any other web pages other publications where some positive references were made about the page under scrutiny.
11. Preference for Open Directory Project (ODP). Business directories like Justdial, Quickerala etc. where business activities involved are generally termed as Open Directory Projects. Open Directory Projects are comprehensive human driven web-directory supported with volunteer editing. Google give due importance for the references in Open Directory Projects and adopt this as meta tags if no other solution is remaining.

Robotic metatags

Robotic metatags are indented for giving directions to the bots approaching web pages for crawling. These instructions are listed in text file, robotic.txt and hidden in the web page, not readable for users. We can defer some crawling process for fully or partially in a page giving appropriate instructions in robotic metatag.
The general format of robotic metatag is
<meta name="robots" content="index, follow" />
The meaning of the above metatag is  the robots coming to the page has to index the page and to follow all links connected with the page,
